In this poignant account, Salah Hammouri recounts the prison life of Palestinian detainees and underlines the importance of international solidarity.
“Interrogations, incarcerations, transfers - everything is designed to psychologically destroy Palestinian prisoners, so that once they're out, they'll be docile and give up fighting for their rights. But this is a very bad calculation, and the Israeli occupation authorities are completely mistaken. For me, as for many of my comrades, prison has become a challenge: the more they've tried to make me bend, the more I've concentrated my strength on staying true to my convictions.”
Born in 1985 in Jerusalem, Salah Hammouri is French-Palestinian. He spent over ten years in Israeli prisons, first wrongly convicted by a military court, then imprisoned under administrative detention (without charge or trial). In December 2022, the Israeli government signed an order to deport Salah Hammouri to France, setting a disturbing precedent. In this poignant account, he recounts the prison life of Palestinian detainees and underlines the importance of international solidarity.
